Joy to the earth! The Saviour reigns;

let us our songs employ;

while fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains,

repeat the sounding joy,

repeat the sounding joy,

repeat, repeat the sounding joy

Some of the birds in the church bringing ‘joy to the world’ were made by former refugees in time of war and fear, others by those who supported them. They remind us that Jesus, soon after his birth, was forced to flee with his family to Egypt, where he found refuge until it was it safe for them to return home, like migrating birds.

‘Out of Egypt, I have called my son’ (Hosea 11.1; Matthew 2.15).
