About Us

Statement about worship: in the words of the Marty Haugen hymn 'all are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place'  that we might share our delight in God and this richly diverse community.

How to find us: Once in OT, look for our land mark 'Peace Tower' on Ayres Road. The 15 bus stops on Kings Road, a short walk up St St John's Road brings you first to St John's Centre and then to church. A metrolink tram takes you to Trafford Bar or Old Trafford. Alighting at the latter, it is a 10 minute walk along Ayres Road.

How did St John's begin?

In 1902, the main parish decided to set up a ‘daughter’ Church in a
new parish and so the so-called ‘iron room’, made of corrugated
iron, was opened for worship. In 1906, next to the ‘iron room’, the
present brick church building, seating around 500 people, had its first stone
laid. The new church was consecrated in 1908. Some twenty years later, the ‘iron room’ was taken down and a new Church Memorial Hall was constructed in1926. Thus the buildings we call St John's Church and St John's Centre came into being.
